GEO Audit
Map which of your pages AI systems cite, score every URL by citation authority, and get actionable fixes for every gap in your AI citation index.
Overview
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is about making AI systems trust and cite your content. The GEO Audit maps your domain's citation index — every page that AI engines have referenced in responses to prompts in your tracked corpus — and tells you exactly what to do to improve it.
Unlike traditional SEO audits that measure search ranking, the GEO Audit measures AI trust: which pages AI engines choose to cite when answering real user queries in your category.
Citation Index
The citation index is a ranked list of every URL on your domain that has appeared in an AI-generated response. Each entry shows:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| URL | The cited page |
| Citation Count | Total times cited across all engines and prompts |
| Engine Breadth | Number of distinct AI engines that have cited this page |
| Prompt Relevance | How closely the prompts that triggered the citation match your core category |
| Authority Score | Composite score (0–100) derived from the three metrics above |
Pages are ranked by Authority Score descending. High-scoring pages are your strongest AI assets; low-scoring pages with high traffic are your biggest optimization opportunities.
Authority Scores
The Authority Score for each cited page reflects:
- Citation Frequency — how often the page is cited relative to all pages on your domain
- Engine Breadth — pages cited across many engines score higher than those cited by just one
- Prompt Relevance — citations triggered by commercially relevant prompts score higher than incidental mentions
A score of 70+ indicates a page AI engines genuinely trust. A score below 30 on a page you consider important signals a content or structure problem worth fixing.
Fix Recommendations
For every under-cited page, AIEO generates specific fix recommendations based on the gap type:
| Gap type | Typical recommendations |
|---|---|
| Missing from all engines | Add structured data / FAQ schema, improve E-E-A-T signals, build external citations |
| Cited by one engine only | Expand content depth, improve source linking, submit to third-party publishers |
| Cited less than competitors | Audit competitor page structure, identify content depth gaps, add comparison content |
| Citation rate declining | Check for content freshness, review recent AI engine updates for your category |
Recommendations are prioritized by potential impact — fix the highest-impact gaps first.
Competitor Citation Comparison
The competitor comparison view shows each tracked competitor's citation index alongside yours. For every content area where a competitor outranks you on AI authority, AIEO flags the specific pages driving their advantage.
Use this view to:
- Identify competitor content formats AI engines prefer (long-form guides, FAQ pages, data-backed articles)
- Find content gaps where no competitor dominates yet — first-mover opportunities
- Validate that your optimizations are closing the gap over time
Running a GEO Audit
GEO Audit data is generated automatically as part of every AI Visibility run — no separate trigger needed. Every prompt response is parsed for URL citations, which feed directly into the citation index.
